Ant and Dec returned to host Britain’s Got Talent in front of a live audience after a two-year absence – and half of the Geordie duo were visibly moved by the experience.

Ant, 46, fought back tears as he and co-star Dec were thrilled to be back.

ITV was forced to cancel the show last year as it became impossible to audition acts due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2020, the live semi-finals and final were postponed to the fall and were largely pre-recorded, involving remote studio audiences.

Speaking to the audience, Ant said: “Excuse me while I go cry. We are so excited to be back. We were disgusted to miss last year and not see you all. But we are back, can’t wait to get out there and have a hell of a show for you.”

Meanwhile, the other Britain’s Got Talent stars couldn’t hide their joy at finally being back on the show, but it wasn’t long before the claws came out.

Having none of that, Simon fired back with “I hope mine lasts longer than yours, David,” in reference to his fellow judge’s five-year marriage to model Lara Stone.

Cowell said: “I’m so excited that we’re back! I can see people! I feel emotional.

Amanda Holden said: “I feel really suffocated. It’s so great to see you all.

Taking to Twitter, many shared their thoughts – and the comparisons to what was one of the biggest reality shows to come out of the UK, The X Factor, was one of the main points.

One called the show ‘terrifying’ as they slammed the judges for being ‘too scared to be honest’

‘Dawn French is too nice, the singers can’t really sing and the production ALWAYS tries the gory story angle. This type of “talent” show had its day more than ten years ago. Bury him already,” they added.

Another said: ‘I thought Boris Johnson’s address to the nation was going to be the worst thing on TV tonight… Then I saw 10 minutes of #WalkTheLine.’

‘Watched 10 minutes of absolutely disastrous #WalkTheLine TV! Such a boring format, done to death,’ a third tweeted.

Simon Cowell’s latest talent show premiered on Sunday night.

But the launch of the Walk The Line series – hosted by Maya Jama – left viewers divided, with many confused by the format and others comparing the new ITV show to a cheap version of the X Factor.

Those who listened were also taken aback when the very first contestant, AJ Brown, 31, performed a cover of the Beach Boys hit God Only Knows, after introducing himself as a singer/songwriter.

Earlier this year, ITV announced that it had no plans to bring back The X Factor – the last full series of the singing competition to air in 2018, with two spin-offs, The X Factor: Celebrity and The X Factor: The Band next in 2019.

However, anyone who thought this was a sign that Simon Cowell was starting to lose his grip on viewers and schedules can think again. Not only is Britain’s Got Talent set to return in 2022 after a pandemic-related absence, it is now bringing us another new talent show format, Walk the Line, which takes place over six consecutive evenings.

It was originally announced that the new show would also mark his return to television after going on hiatus last year, but he decided to step down, saying he instead wanted to “focus on his role as a creator and producer”.

However, he has found plenty of familiar faces to take his place on the panel, including Gary Barlow, who should know the ropes after his own stint on The X Factor. The Take That singer-songwriter says: “When Simon calls, it’s usually with something quite extraordinary. I’m so excited to be on a brand new TV show, and of course my favorite part of Walk the Line is discovering new talent.

He will be joined by someone else who is used to working with Cowell, pop star turned Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon.

Chart star Craig David has also been cast, and the panel is rounded out by Dawn French, who can barely contain herself. She says, “I’m way too excited to be a part of this show, – I’ve decided to wear double panties at all times…”

Meanwhile, Maya Jama is taking on the presenting duties, and she’s also brimming with enthusiasm: “It was one of my childhood dreams. I remember watching shows created by Simon when I was younger, and having the opportunity to host one myself… it was really a pinch moment for me. Expect first-class entertainment and truly amazing singing talent. Walk The Line is unlike anything I’ve worked on before and I hope everyone has as much fun watching it as we did.

But aside from Simon’s involvement, why are the stars so excited about Walk the Line? Well, it could be due to the format.

The series is giving a musical act a life-changing £500,000 payout. The artists – whether soloists, duos or groups – will take the stage to perform in front of the nation and the judges. So far so standard for a talent show, but there’s a twist. The winner of tonight’s opening episode will have the option of walking away with £10,000 or ‘crossing the line’ and facing four new challengers tomorrow, risking losing it all.

Judge Craig said: “I’m really impressed with the quality of the competitors I’ve seen so far and love that they get to bet on themselves every step of the way. I can’t wait to get started and see who is going to take the money or take a leap of faith and walk the line.

Simon Cowell’s new talent show Walk The Line was hit with technical errors ahead of ITV debut as studio audience voting blocks failed

It is set to hit screens on December 12.

But, Simon Cowell’s new talent show Walk The Line was hit by technical errors during the filming of key moments, ahead of its ITV debut.

During the finale, some of the studio’s audience voting blocks did not work, leading to an independent judge being brought in while the issues were worked out.

Nightmare! Simon Cowell’s new talent show Walk The Line was reportedly hit by a technical error ahead of its ITV debut (pictured in November)

The technical malfunction plunged the show into crisis mode moments before the announcement of its big winner.

An insider told TVZone, “Within minutes of the voting period starting, it was clear that the studio audience was struggling to vote on keyboards.

“As more and more people complained about the issues with the production staff, the Independent Judge was finally called in to speak to the public.”

MailOnline has contacted ITV for a comment.

It is claimed that the producers were forced to extend the voting period while the technical faults were resolved.

The awkward incident will most likely be deleted, so viewers at home are unlikely to see it when the finale airs later this month.

The report comes just weeks after it emerged that Judge Alesha Dixon, 43, was forced to film from her home after coming into contact with someone who had tested positive for Covid-19.

The presenter eventually had to judge via video link for the talent show as she was told to self-isolate as a precaution.

Fortunately, the singer tested negative following a lateral flow test, but the show continued to film without her in case she showed symptoms.

A source told The Sun at the time: “Alesha is feeling fine and tested negative. But to be sure, she is staying alone and avoiding going on set until she is cleared. final.

“It’s just not worth the risk to the rest of the production, crew, co-judges and contestants.”

Alesha will star alongside Gary Barlow, 50, Dawn French, 64, and Craig David, 40, on the judging panel for ITV’s new musical game show.

The program will offer musicians the opportunity to earn a sum of money that will change their lives.

It will be hosted by Maya Jama and was created by Simon Cowell – which will debut later this year.

It was revealed in October that Simon left the judging panel for the six-part series in order to spend more time with his partner Lauren Silverman and their seven-year-old son Eric.

The show was set to represent Simon’s return to primetime TV after the plug was pulled on The X Factor earlier this year – but the star has confirmed his role will be limited to behind the camera.

Although he won’t appear on screen – unlike what UK and US audiences have grown accustomed to over the past two decades – Simon will take on the role of executive producer.

Simon Cowell has quit new game show Walk The Line and will be replaced on the judging panel by Take That star Gary Barlow

Simon Cowell is said to have quit Walk The Line as it was revealed that the show will only be on our screens for a week.

The game show was billed as the 62-year-old music mogul’s comeback, but he announced he was stepping down as one of the show’s judges.

He is set to be replaced by Take That star Gary Barlow as the series prepares to arrive.

However, unlike Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor, the live show is said to only air for one week as it will be “broken down” into six episodes which will air on consecutive nights.

A source told The Sun: “It might come as a surprise to viewers as they associate Simon’s shows, namely X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, with Saturday night TV.

“But Walk The Line is very much a mid-week show, in the same vein as BGT’s live finals.

“Except the live final of the new game show may not even fall on a Saturday – ITV programmers have yet to decide.

“Simon and the team felt that stripping down the series in this way lent itself to building tension and felt like a more appropriate approach in the world of frenzy.”

While Simon will no longer be a judge, Gary will be joined by Craig David and Mabel on the panel. Maya Jama will be responsible for hosting duties.

Simon reportedly stepped down to reduce his workload and spend more time with his family.

Simon says of the decision to hand over the work to Gary: “This is a situation where I decided it was right for me to focus on my role as creator and producer as we prepare for this. extremely exciting launch.

“Gary’s musical pedigree is second to none – and we’ve known each other for a long time now – so I’m delighted he’ll be taking over for me for the first series of Walk The Line. I know he’ll do a fantastic job.”

The Sun reports that Simon has decided to start cutting back on his workload so he can spend more quality time with partner Lauren Silverman and young son Eric.

The show is billed as a musical version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and will see contestants sing to win a £500,000 prize.

If contestants choose to keep fighting, they will have a chance to win an even bigger cash prize.

Former Take That singer Gary Barlow will replace Simon Cowell as a judge on the upcoming ITV show Walk The Line.

Owell, 62, will take a step back from his on-screen position to focus on his role as creator and producer of the show’s first series.

He said: “This is a situation where I have decided it is right for me to focus on my role as creator and producer as we prepare for the extremely exciting launch of the first series of our new show. , Walk The Line.”

“Based on that, I’m thrilled to have Gary join the panel. Gary’s musical pedigree is second to none – and we’ve known each other for a long time now – so I’m delighted he’s taking over for me for the first series of Walk The Line. I know he will do a fantastic job.

Cowell’s appearance on Walk The Line was set to mark his return to British TV after he broke his back falling from an electric bike he was testing at his home in Malibu in August last year.

The show will offer musical variety artists a chance to win a prize, but to win the money, they must decide if they want to cash in or risk it all to stay in the competition.

Barlow, who celebrated her 50th birthday earlier this year, has carved out a successful TV career alongside her music after serving as a judge on The X Factor and Let It Shine.

He said: ‘When Simon calls, it’s usually with something quite extraordinary. I’m so excited to be involved with a brand new TV show, and of course my favorite part of Walk The Line is discovering new talent. It’s also great to be working with the ITV team again.

During the lockdown, Barlow delighted fans by hosting his daily Crooner sessions on social media, which saw him perform with musicians including his former Take That bandmate Robbie Williams and Sir Cliff Richard, as well as Jason Donovan , Shane Filan of Westlife and Olly Murs of The X Factor.

In September, it was announced that Maya Jama will host Walk The Line.

Her TV credits include presenting the third season of BBC’s Glow Up: Britain’s Next Makeup Star and she joined Celebrity Juice as a regular panelist earlier this year.

A statement from ITV said: “We are delighted that Gary has decided to join the Walk The Line family and we understand and support Simon’s decision to focus on his role as producer and creator of this first series.

One-off Saturday night juggernaut The X Factor may have come to an end after 17 years, but show creator Simon Cowell wasted no time bringing a brand new format of entertainment to our screens this fall.

Walk The Line takes the search for musical talent and adds a high-stakes bet that could see an act leave the show with a half-million-pound prize pool.

How will Walk The Line work?

Walk The Line will run for six nights. In each episode, musical acts – soloists, duets, bands and choirs – will perform in front of Cowell and a panel of judges.

Each night, the winning act will have a choice: cash out and walk away with a modest sum, or stay in the contest and compete against new acts the following night, when they could be closing in on the 500,000 jackpot. £ or lose it all.

“We wanted to develop a show that would offer contestants a life-changing cash prize if they won,” Cowell said.

“At every show there will be a champion who will have to make a vital decision: either cash in on the spot or stay in the contest to compete again the following night for a chance to claim the huge prize.

“It’s the kind of decision that will keep viewers on the edge of their seat – real event TV.

“I am thrilled to give musical talents the opportunity to transform their lives like never before.”

Who is the host of Walk The Line?

Walk the Line will be hosted by Maya Jama, above. The former Radio 1 DJ became the youngest presenter of the MOBO Awards aged 23 in 2017, and has also appeared on Celebrity Juice, Celebrity Gogglebox and Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star.

For the past two summers, football fan Maya has co-hosted Save Our Summer and Crouchy’s Year-Late Euros: Live alongside Peter Crouch.

“If someone told me, describe your dream job, that would be it!” she said.

“I literally couldn’t be more excited to be working with Syco, Lifted Entertainment and the incredible team at ITV on Walk The Line.”

Who are the judges?

Other than Simon Cowell himself, the identities of the judges are still unknown.

When is Walk The Line on ITV?

Walk The Line will debut on ITV and ITV Hub later in the fall.
